Business Setup in Dubai: Questions We Get Every Week
How much does company formation in Dubai cost in 2026?
A free zone licence starts at AED 5,565 (Ajman) to AED 12,900 (IFZA) for a zero-visa package, a Dubai mainland DET licence from about AED 12,000, and an offshore company from AED 8,500. Visas add roughly AED 3,500 to AED 5,000 each in government costs. We give you one written all-inclusive figure for your exact activity and visa count.
Which is better for me, mainland or free zone?
Choose mainland if you will sell to UAE customers, bid for government work or need unlimited visas with an office. Choose a free zone if your customers are mostly outside the UAE or other free zone companies, you want the lowest entry cost, or you may qualify for 0% corporate tax as a Qualifying Free Zone Person. We assess this in the first call, for free.
How long does business setup in Dubai take?
Most free zone licences are issued in 3 to 7 working days once documents are complete. Mainland licences take 7 to 15 working days. Residence visas add 2 to 4 weeks after the licence. Regulated activities that need external approvals take longer.
Can a foreigner own 100% of a company in Dubai?
Yes. Every free zone allows 100% foreign ownership, and since 2021 most mainland commercial and industrial activities do as well without a local sponsor. A small list of strategic activities still needs UAE national participation, and we tell you upfront if yours is one of them.
Do I need to be in the UAE to set up the company?
No. We can obtain the trade licence remotely for most free zones and many mainland activities. You only need to be in the UAE for the visa medical test and Emirates ID biometrics, and some banks ask for one in-person meeting.
Does a new company have to register for corporate tax?
Yes. Every UAE company, including free zone and small companies, must register for corporate tax on EmaraTax within the deadline after licence issue, or face an AED 10,000 penalty. We include the registration in the setup so it is never missed.
What documents are needed to start?
For most setups: a passport copy for each shareholder and manager, a passport photo, a UAE entry stamp or visa copy if you are already here, and your chosen activities and trade name. Corporate shareholders add their incorporation documents, attested.
